I thought that no one would date me because of my HIV+ status. Turns out, I couldn’t be more wrong. I went on dates with three guys since my diagnosis and all of them did not have an issue with my HIV+ status. Maybe I am just lucky so far.
Every individual living with HIV makes their own decision on when to disclose to their prospective partners. Me, I decided to just disclose on my first date so that I can get it out of the way.
The conversation starts off something like…
“Just to give you a heads up. I am HIV positive. If that is an issue with you, that’s totally cool.”
I really do mean it. I don’t want to be dating a guy who is uncomfortable about the fact that HIV positive. That’s just a relationship waiting to end very soon. It would be a waste of my time and his time.
Anyways, just wanted to give you guys an update on my love life.
